Defining the Visual & Emotional Tone of My Film

For my film, I’ve curated a mood board that reflects the dark, intense, and deeply emotional tone of my story, centered around themes of honor, vengeance, and injustice.

Themes & Narrative Inspiration

At the core of my film is a critical exploration of honor-based violence and the consequences of a deeply ingrained patriarchal system. The inclusion of images like the protest sign “There is no honour in killing” and statistics on honor killings in Pakistan directly tie into the film’s subject matter. My project aims to shed light on these harsh realities, questioning traditions that often go unchallenged.

Color Palette & Aesthetic

The chosen colors: deep browns, muted greens, dark greys, and black create a somber, haunting aesthetic. Shades like Ebony Clay, Redwood, and Zeus enhance the feeling of mystery, fear, and inevitability. These tones will guide my film’s cinematography, influencing lighting choices and set design to maintain a consistent, emotionally heavy atmosphere.

Cinematography & Lighting

The images suggest a strong contrast between light and shadow, playing with silhouettes and darkness to create a sense of oppression and secrecy. One striking visual is the veiled figure, representing anonymity, fear, and mourning. Another key reference is the night setting, where the moon illuminates an empty field, reinforcing the isolation and danger present in the story.

Character & Setting

The mood board also captures the cultural and architectural elements relevant to my film. The image of two characters sitting on the edge of a traditional building suggests themes of secrecy, hidden relationships, or power struggles. The presence of figures in traditional attire, including a silhouette of a bearded man, hints at the authoritative figures who dictate societal norms, further reinforcing the film’s conflict.

Mood & Message

The phrase “Honor in vengeance” on the board encapsulates the central conflict, how honor and revenge are dangerously intertwined. My film challenges these notions, portraying the devastating impact of such beliefs. The overall mood is dark, suspenseful, and emotionally charged, aiming to immerse the audience in an intense and thought provoking experience.
